My horoscope this week

Here's a quote from my horoscope this week that just really stands true & it applies to everyone so I wanted to share.

"You can trust the fact that if you do what's right for you your good relationships will only improve and the ones that don't work will disappear."

I don't want to say that this is part of my new years resolution because I didn't really make one but I did vow to only be true to those who are true to me & to stop making excuses for the people in my life who obviously don't care about me.  I spend so much energy trying to maintain relationships with a handful of people that never reciprocate but then I realized that the relationships that really matter just maintain themselves so why am I wasting my time?  Well, I'm not anymore...if they want to be my friend then they can make an effort because I'm done.  Happy 2011 everyone...stay true to you!!

How crazy!

So last night my mom called & we were on the phone for quite a while & she was telling me how she went to the dentist on Monday & had to deal with this obnoxious dad & his 2 kids in the waiting room because she had of oddly enough arrived really early & her hygienist was running late.   How odd is it that on Monday I also had a dentist appointment & arrived really early & my hygienist was running late & I had to deal with an obnoxious mom & her 2 kids?  I also had an obnoxious stranger & a woman yapping on her cell phone but still we were both really early & we're usually just on time, then our hygienists were running late & they never do!  To top it off mom asked me when my next appointment was scheduled & I told her Monday January 17th & she said "me too".  Crazy...crazy I say!!

A ranting I will go!

Attention everyone: nobody owes you anything!

I'm so over knowing so may ungrateful, tacky, self serving people...it's really getting out of hand. Me & my friends & the majority of the people I know are over the age of 30 which means that high school & ideas of marrying someone rich are gone & it's time to step up & take responsibility for yourself!

If you can't pay your bills then get a job, if you can't afford to go on a trip with your friends then don't go, if you can't be bothered to make a dish to pass then don't show up at the potluck looking for something to eat. I don't know if it's just the economic times that are causing this but I've noticed so many greedy bastards lately bitching about how effed up their life is & blaming someone else. Look, it may not be your fault that you got laid off from your job with no hope of returning but I can tell you that it's not your coworker or boss' fault either. Sure, you can sulk for a few days but then it's time to get up, get moving & find a new job, not find someone else to take care of you.

Do you guys have those people (mostly women) in your life who you have heard complain about their significant other, every friend & family member they have, every coworker? I know those people and after I hear them complain about how everyone is fucked up & out to get them & how crazy all of these people are behaving all I can think is "dude, YOU are the common denominator" like does it ever occur to these people that it's them, not every single person around them?

What about the over reactors, you know the one who says that a coworker stole hours from them & you come to find out later that the coworker simply requested the OT prior to your friend doing it but of course the friend still thinks that bitch is trying to steal her job.

I just always wonder, what color glasses do these people see the world through? Why can't they ever see that they are the problem, that they aren't all that so there's no reason for people to try to sabotage them? Is this something that starts when they are kids? I mean, I'm an only child so I know that I can be difficult at times because I don't compromise, I do things my way & if you don't like it I don't care, I almost always get my way & when I don't I act like a 3 year old and it's because I always got everything I wanted growing up. I never had to share or compromise or do anything that I didn't want to do & I pretty much expect it to be the same now that I'm grown...hence the reason I'm still single but I know it's because of me, not because some stupid guy had other interests & was trying to screw me over. Even though I always secretly wanted to marry someone rich my mom always told me that it was most important in life to learn to take care of myself first because men aren't there to take care of you, if they choose to then great but if they then turn around & leave you, you are already well prepared & know that you can take care of yourself. I also think that most men would rather be with a woman who can take care of herself & isn't just with him for the sake of needing to be taken care of.

I recently heard a story of a 10 year old little girl who is friends with my friends daughter. This little girl never has money when she comes to hang out with my friends daughter so my friend is always shelling out cash for this little girl & my friend doesn't exactly have the extra cash to begin with. Well a couple weeks back the little girl came & spent the night with my friend & her daughter & they went out to the movies & to eat & of course the little girl didn't have any cash so my friend had to pay. To make matters worse, the little girl was staying because her mom called my friend & asked if she could take her because she had plans (yes she asked for a favor & sent the kid with no $). After everything my friend had to take the little girl home as well & when she got out of the car my friend said "you're welcome Name" and the little girl said "ok, bye". Now you tell me...whose fault is that? You got it, it's moms! Mom never has any money so everyone is always taking care of her and taking care of her daughter as well, not her. This little girl assumes that it's normal that other people pay, and because of that she doesn't appreciate what is being done for her; obviously, if she can't be bothered to say thank you. I feel really bad for this little girl...when she grows up she's going to be that bitch I mentioned above, the one who thinks that men & the universe owe her something & it's pretty sad when these girls get to the age when their friends are taking care of themselves while they are searching for their prince because they are always negative & miserable & they do their damnedest to take their friends down with them.

I just want to say right now that I choose not to help those who ask for help when I know damn well they can help themselves if they try. By helping people like that it just furthers their ideas that the world owes them something when the world doesn't owe anyone anything & if you want a change in your life it is your responsibility to change it, nobody else. Personally I feel that we all get one "why did this happen to me, life sucks, how will I ever get by, someone please help me" card and once you are back on your feet you are never to ask for help like that again. Asking for small help here & there "hey can I borrow $20 to print resumes", "can you give me a ride to work" etc, is perfectly acceptable just don't take my $20 & go spend the day drinking by the pool!

Trying to Nap at Work

So today is Monday & I’m tired as hell, I didn’t want to get out of bed so I’m really not feeling being at work & I’m writing this blog to keep myself awake during lunch. Since it is my lunch break though I certainly have the time for a 20 min nap but I’m not sure how to go about it. Here are some of the options I’m thinking of:

1. Curl up under my desk, I’m pretty small so I’d fit & people might not even notice me under there since I’m wearing black, I’d totally blend in.
2. One of my brokers gave me a key to his office, he no longer works here but I still have the key so I could totally sneak in there & nap for a few without anyone noticing.
3. Go home & go to bed, but by the time I fell asleep I’d have to come back
4. I do have the Yukon today & had I planned ahead the back of that beast is plenty large enough for me to curl up & sleep in.
5. Our conference room has benches all the way around it, so assuming that nobody has a client coming in I could totally sleep there…it’s dark & again, I’d totally blend in.
6. I could do what I’ve done at past jobs…go sleep in the bathroom, but then people would be like “dude, Kelly’s been in there a long time” I’d get blamed for any and all smells that may permeate from the bathroom all day & maybe even tomorrow.
7. I suppose I could go to CVS & nab a red bull but that would require energy…to get me to CVS
8. I could cut the power somehow & hope we’d get sent home which I doubt would happen, we lost power once for 2 hours & they made us wait it out.
9. I could claim that I have recently developed narcolepsy and just fall asleep randomly but they would probably want a note from my doctor…I could always have another coworker fudge one, right? Yeah, probably not.
10. I could suck it up & take advantage of the sweet ass coffee machine we have here & pour myself a piping hot Sumatra with a shot of espresso.

Number 10 is looking to be my most likely source of energy. At least I only have to make it 2.75 more hours & I spend the last half hour on the switchboard anyway so technically I only have to maintain alertness in my cube for 2.5 hours. I just wish that after work I could go home & get in my pj’s & go to bed, yes you heard me go to bed…skip all my shows & watch them on the DVR tomorrow. Unfortunately I’m not that lucky, I have to go to Dearborn after work & get my car from the shop & then give Doug the Yukon back but I will at least score a free meal out of it, yippee cause I’m broke!

Summer of Ecstasy

So as I woke up today I realized that it is fall, and while it’s my favorite season I hate to succumb to it. As I was sitting in my apartment the other day bundling up in a blanket I jumped online and looked at the weather desperately hoping to see that the temp would be going back up into the 70’s and it wasn’t. I suddenly felt a little sad and realized that summer is like a great ecstasy roll. The season shows up & it feels so good with the sun on your face & your windows rolled down & the breeze in your hair, you can’t wait to put on that cute sundress & flip-flops & be outside. Rather than freezing you are sweating just walking from your house to your car, you don’t need to use your remote start any more, you start enjoying the freedom that summer gives you. Road trips, beach visits, partying on a week night, watching the sun set at 9:30 pm, staying up late, playing hooky, drinking outside, watching fireworks, going to carnivals & garage sales & festivals…summer is just one thing after the other and it keeps up for a long time but sadly, not long enough. Suddenly you start to feel less free and as you begin coming down you fight so hard but then it gets chilly, it’s dark out & it’s 7pm, you are getting tired early, you have no plans this weekend, the partying, traveling, dancing it’s all slowing down & bringing you to the end of the fun you were just having. Whether you want to come down & accept the new season or not you have no choice, eventually you have to let it happen and stop fighting, you have to let summer go & learn to enjoy all the great smells & colors that fall has to offer you.

Random Story

So last night I'm at my friend's house & someone else there said that his TV had an odd color to it & he said it was probably because it was dirty. I told him to clean it & he asks what to use, I suggest Windex of course & he says "no, I remember them saying not to use Windex" so I ask what did you use the last time you cleaned it? He thinks for a minute & says "I think a wet rag" and I say "you think, when was the last time you cleaned it".

Him- I can't remember
Me- How many times have you cleaned it
Him- Once
Me- When did you buy this
Him- 1998
Me- Shut the Fuck up! This TV is 10 years old & it's been cleaned once? What the hell is wrong with you? You should clean the TV at least once a month but more like once a week.
Him- Why?
Me- Walked away.

Honestly, I can be pretty dirty & messy but cleaning your TV once in 10 years is just insane! When I lived there I was lax on cleaning my TV (and everything else), but I did it about once every 2 to 3 months & in 2 months it would get nasty dirty!! I finally told him that he might want to try a hammer & chisel to clean it rather than a wet rag and he wonders why I moved out.

The Hunt For the Perfect Stall

Ladies, I was at the movies a few weeks back & after the flick I had to pee so I strolled into the bathroom and began “the hunt”. It suddenly occurred to me as I was walking down the aisle opening every available stall door and peeking in, that us ladies are like dogs sniffing out the right area of grass to kill. I of course wasn’t the only woman doing this; there were 2 other women who were also narrowing down where they wanted to relieve themselves. The first woman looked inside about 8 stalls before she found a suitable one while the woman behind her only looked in about 4, which tells me that these 2 women obviously have different standards for choosing the right toilet. Woman 2 picked a stall that woman 1 had passed up for whatever reason but I’m guessing that it wasn’t lack of toilet paper. Now, I went in the 2nd stall which had been passed up by both women & I’m not sure why. There was plenty of toilet paper, no pee or anything else on the seat, nothing on the floor, and had a full stock of seat covers. Obviously these are my criteria in finding a good public toilet, and I prefer not to be in a stall next to someone if possible. Normally I won’t go into the first stall…not sure why, I just don’t and when I’m in a bathroom that is small & only has 2 stalls I go for the handicapped one if it’s open. Obviously sometimes you just don’t have time to hunt for “the one” because you are about to pee yourself but when you do have the time…what are your criteria?
